"I'm not sure how you heard of it," confessed the Professor. "Yes, indeed, we ARE working on such a process."
"What I heard was that one of your lab assistants went to the Yakuza, and one of the local oyabun is working to refine the process to give his 'boys' an edge," said Genma. "Naturally, this has just been dismissed as an urban legend, but such things are of great interest to me."
"So you think your son is strong enough to take it?" asked Professor Natsume, continuing into his lab. "I'm not sure. The process is extremely unstable at the higher end of things. If you're volunteering your son as an experimental subject - well - I don't think I'm ready for human testing."
"So this is it?" asked Genma, pointing to a large sarcophogus-like tube.
"Yes, that's the infusion chamber," admitted Natsume. "So far anything beyond 10% is horribly unstable."
"I see," said Genma, thinking an additional 10% was STILL an additional 10%.
"Ahhhhhhhh," said Professor Natsume. "What are those baka doing with my Zoomorphosizer Mark I?!"
"According to the rumor," said Genma, "they're experimenting with creating superpowered criminal troops."
Professor Natsume was silent for a time, but Genma saw the flash of outrage. His natural reaction was to shy away from the mad scientist. On the other hand, he took the moment of inattention to unlock a window.
"How long is this gonna take Pops? I gotta draft here."
"Just a moment," said Genma, looking over the tubes. What to use? [Iriomote Cat] might be good, but there was also [African Lion] and [Siberian Tiger] and [Brown Bear], oh my!
There was [Cheetah] and [Bat] and [Dolphin] and [Boar] and [Rabbit] among other things. Some were DNA samples extrapolated from fossils, some were from endangered species, others were from common species that were readily available.
After thinking about it a little, Genma selected one, put it in the obvious slot, checked to see that the readout indicated 10% and pulled the lever that started zapping his son. The Catfist had been abandoned when an errant breeze had flipped a page and he'd seen the downside. THIS though, would work.
