"Ah. Supeheroes. That takes me back."
"Superheroes?" Shinji asked.
"People who fought for the concepts of truth and honor and inspiered hope for the masses. They had amazing powers that seperated them from normal people."
The SRU wizard shook his head sadly. "This world needs hope. At any rate, that would take your mind off the problems that you normally face."
Shinji frowned a bit and nodded. "I'll buy it."
The SRU wizard smiled a bit. "If you can gather some friends, I 'll run it for you."
"Run?"
"The book has the necesarry information for a Game Master and what he does. I'm doing this to drum up some more business."
Shinji flipped through the book and quickly read the relavent section.
"I see what you mean now."
"Use the mid level value in creating your character," the wizard said. "I'll dig up one of my old adventures."
"Why not starting level?" Shinji asked.
"I was never that fond of New Mutants. By the way, try to come up with some origin other than mutant."
"What?"
"Nevermind."
Shinji just shook his head and left with his purchase. Before he did, the wizard handed him a pad of blank character sheets. He waved it off when Shinji looked at him quizzically.
The wizard smiled and laughed, as he wondered what Seele would think about the advanced humans that were soon to appear.
"Humanity at a dead end of evolution? Yeah, right."
---------------------------------------------
Back home, Shinji opened the book and saw the various archetypes and powers a superhero could have.
"What are you doing Shinji?" Asuka asked.
"It's a role playng game that I'm trying to make a character for."
Asuka looked at the book. "That's a style I haven't seen before."
"You play RPGs?" Shinji asked.
Asuka nodded, "Of course. So, who are you getting to run it?"
"The person I bought the game from offered to run it. He says he's doing it to sell more stuff."
"Store promotion," Asuka said. "Makes sense. Who are you getting to play?"
"I've asked Toji and Kensuke."
Asuka asked, "Do you mind if Hikari and I get involved?"
Shinji shrugged. "I don't care. Maybe we should invite Rei as well."
Asuka snorted. "I doubt that she has any sort of imagination."
"It wouldn't hurt to ask. Any way, the guy said start at mid level and use an origin other than mutant. I have no idea what that second part means."
Asuka stared at Shinji. "Maybe it's in the book."
Shinji flipped to the example origins and read. "Mutant-person who gains super powers in their teens from genetic anomoly."
Asuka looked over Shinji's shoulder and read the other example origins. "The others seem to be a lot more creative. I get it. We spend time in comming up with the origin and we feel a deeper connection to the character."
Shinji shrugged and went back to character creation. He finished and Asuka took the book.
"The power to do things that others can't," Asuka mumbled to herself. "If it was only so easy."
