Shinji had taken the wizard's advice and had gone with something other than mutant. He had, instead gone with the even more traditional "radiation accident." Some of Shinji's real life could be seen in the origin as Shove apparently received his powers through an accidental interaction with some sort of alien energy form.
Asuka had also taken a radiation accident. A sort of super retro-virus had mutated "Ultra-Lady," giving her powers but also exaggerating a formerly mild allergy to various plants. As a result wood caused her incredible pain if it passed through her skin.
Rei, on the other hand, had "chosen" the "alien hybrid" option making her character only partially human, the rest being "something else." There was no need for any reality altering there, only a little was necessary to alter the extent to which it changed her abilities.
Kensuke had gone ahead taken the mutant background to explain his character's hyper intelligence and powers. Hikari had decided that psychic phenomena ran in Silver Dove's family. Maya's character had been transformed into a fairy by a magical encounter with a distant ancestor named Titania (who was going to be thrilled that she got to participate in this cosmic practical joke). The remaining characters were all "radiation accidents" of one type or another.
The SRU wizard smiled as he considered how easy the alterations to reality would blend into the current one without being noticed. Even the one mutant was outside the group whose DNA was closely watched and so the sudden shift would likely be unremarked.
"Well," he began. "It is a week since the first attack on Earth by the alien invaders and some of your characters are finally getting out of the hospital and finding themselves...different..."
