There were weaknesses in their nature that could not be fixed as it came from them, not their hosts.
Electricity would be a big problem. Between the symbiont and the host, there were plenty of neuro-pathways, lots of space for an electrical current to play with. And the symbiont might not have the same resilience to damage as their hosts, which asked the question. What happened to the host if the symbiont died?
In addition, there was a constant psychic connection that a mage or psychic could eventually discover and make use of.
And, funny enough, the symbiots were allergic to violets.
Which was way Ranma developed something of a dizzying-headache as he passed by a greenhouse with a sale on the bright purple flowers. However, he was through before it could get truly bad, and so neither Ranma nor the symbiote realized what had caused the problem.
