Kodachi snapped out of the last remains of her dementor induced daze. She stood up and wearily stepped forward, some of the teachers commented that it was a surprise she could still walk. She didn't notice the expectant silence that hung over the room.
"I wonder where she'll end up," Harry asked. Ron shrugged.
"She looks a little cloudy," Ron said. "Maybe Hufflepuff?" He said it with a smirk and Hermione rolled her eyes as she looked toward him.
"You don't know much about her family do you?" Hermione asked and proceeded to wait for the hat to say Ravenclaw or Slytherin before moving on to the next student.
Across the room, at the Slytherin table, the same situation existed, though the Slytherin table watched with a kind of smug anticipation.
"Well," the Sorting Hat said into Kodachi's mind. "It has been long since any of the Mistress's children have been under my view."
"Mistress?" Kodachi whispered, confused.
"It is no matter," the hat said. "Let us see what we have to work with, shall we, though I suppose I should know what to expect. Hmmmm." The hat said, sounding somewhat surprised and intrigued.
"Is there something the matter?" Kodachi asked hesitantly.
"How interesting," the hat said. "Treachery and honor in good doses I expected. Pride and vindictiveness as well. But not this fervant hatred of bullies. Hmmm. You'd fit in well in Slytherin, no doubt..."
"That den of thievish clowns?" Kodachi responded, incredulous enough that a little of her normal shield of arrogance crept in.
"That would be a no then," the Sorting Hat said wryly. "you're somewhat more fiery and reckless than could be tolerated by most Ravenclaws. What to do, what to do. Hmmm...Hufflepuff won't do...and that leaves only..."
"Gryffindor!!" the hat shouted aloud.
The announcement was greated with stunned silence and only a few people clapping. People that were likewise unaware of the history of Kodachi's family.
Uproarious applause, such as had greeted Harry two years before, guided Kodachi to her seat with the Gryffindors across from a rather shocked looking Hermione.
