"How do these skill download thingies work anyway ?" asked Ranma to no one in particular. His particular logic had already determined that if he could learn all sorts of non-martial arts skills without too much efforts and quickly to boot, it was a really good thing ! Besides, seeing Hinako's face when he would ace that English test next week would be worth it...
Another android salesgirl, whose name was Yukari according to the badge on her uniform, appeared almost by magic next to the 'Hypno-Educator' and smiled at him "It's a really simple process, Saotome-san ! You sit on this chair and you are immediately put into a state of light sleep, where your brain becomes highly receptive to outside data input. The neural interface then sets in and put the desired knowledge directly into your cerebral cortex, quickly and painlessly"
Ranma responded with a witty comeback, showing he had understood the principle behind the process "Huh ?"
Yukari sighed and decided to use the short version for dummies "Basically, you take a nap and you're taught what you want in your sleep"
"Oh, why didn't you say so earlier ? Anyway, what kind of things can it teach me ?"
Yukari used a remote control she took out of one of her pockets and switched on a computer right next to the Hypno-Educator. A list of various programs and skill packages began to scroll down the screen "As you can see, Cyberdine offers a wide selection : Languages, academic subjects, various vehicles handling and maintenance, sciences and some exotic skills as well..."
Ranma frowned "No martial arts ?" Not that he needed a computer to learn that, mind you.
"Beyond basic self-defence, I'm afraid not, Saotome-san. The potential for misuse is too great. We feel that a real sensei is needed to teach discipline and a sense of responsibility along with the martial arts. Power easily gained is abused often. Besides, the Hypno-Educator teaches the mind, not the body. Martial arts are also about instinct and reflexes. This is not the Matrix here"
Ranma shrugged in approval "I see your point" Every time a Nerima regular got a free powerup like the Super Soba or the Battle Dogi, it would go to their heads and things went ugly.
"So, Saotome-san, do you see anything of interest in our catalog ?"
"Well, actually..."
