Under him this small group of rebels was becoming an army, and soon, they’d be strong enough to strike at the hearts of the two warring powers and bring order to this nation. His order.
“General Liquid, sir!” exclaimed a voice behind him.
The warrior turned around and smiled at his subordinate. “How is the operation commencing?”
“Very well, sir! We have successfully raided the armories and now have the guns we need. You plan was ingenious, sir.”
Liquid sneered. His plan was not ingenious. It was just that the commanders of this movement were so incompetent that they could not exploit the clear weakness of their warring oppressors. All they had know how to do was hit and run. He lacked such flaws. The troops were motivated, and experts in guerilla warfare. An intelligent leader could conquer a nation with troops such as these, as he was about to show to the world.
“And the troops?”
The young man gulped, obviously. “They are being positioned in the two capitols as we speak. They only await your orders and they will storm the military and governmental command faculties.”
Liquid Snake sighed. “What is your name, boy.”
“Corporal Pinter Raddek.”
“Do you doubt my plan, Corporal Raddek? I will not punish you for telling the truth.”
“Sir, yes sir.”
“Why?”
“If we fail here, then we will lose most of our assets. We’re taking too great a risk.”
Liquid smiled. “And if we succeed?”
“A double coup. We’ll gain almost total control over night.”
Liquid Snake smiled. “Exactly. Think you could do better.”
He shook his head. “No sir, but...”
“But what?”
He walked over to the map of the eastern capitol. “I am from this city and know the layout better then most. There are a series of pre-World War 2 steam tunnels under the entire city. If we take out the bridges across the river, we could keep the defense troops on the west bank from having easy access to the governmental district on the east, while using the tunnels to hit undetected throughout the city. It would allow us to hold back a reserve and do the same work with fewer men, sir.”
Liquid smiled. “A very well thought out plan. If we can find a detailed map of the tunnels then I will consider it.”
The young soldier smiled widely. “Thank you, sir!”
Liquid smiled, “All soldiers, at least all soldiers worth commanding, have their doubts. It helps them to survive. It takes an good solider to understand the greater picture and it takes a great one to find possible flaws, and to make improvements. Soldiers are not machines, we are warriors. however, in the end we do as we are commanded by our superior officers. Understand that, Lieutenant?”
“SIR, YES, SIR!”
“Good. Now, get me that map...”
