"Woof yip gruffle!"
"Good girl, Akane," said Ranma, scratching her behind an ear.
Akane's eyes half closed and she leaned into it, helpless before the feelings that rolled through her being.
She was shorter than she'd been as a human. Maybe four foot ten now - about even with Ranma's girl form. She was also covered in black fur, though she had a thicker mane of black hair around the scalp that had a single reddish lock in front.
She was a humanoid dog and her muzzle wasn't constructed for human speech, much less Japanese. If she could learn to speak, she'd have to learn it all over again.
Akane whined as the doggie dish was put in front of her, and like a "good girl" she went to all fours and started munching it down.
"She's such a good girl, isn't she?" Kasumi said, patting Akane on the head. "She always tries at least."
Akane found her tail wagging and felt another jolt of humiliation, particularly at the feelings of pride and pleasure at being described as a good girl.
After her meal she yapped at the house and was allowed to use the bathroom, though Kasumi kept her on a leash the whole time.
Akane listened carefully over the next several hours, trying to figure this out and being completely unsuccessful in her attempts to get anyone to consider anything else than Ranma's pet dog-girl.
It was when Yuka and Sayuri came over and started petting her that some of the details were mentioned.
Everyone remembered her as a stray dog that had gotten involved in one of Ranma's attempts to find a cure. The glowing pool of water hadn't done anything to Ranma, but when Akane had jumped in - she had turned halfway human.
Since then she had been adopted by Ranma and the rest of the family and had become the beloved and smart family pet. One that Tatewaki Kuno apparently obsessed with for whatever reason.
Speech was out of the question, and her hands seemed to have next to no coordination.
