The man slowly circled clockwise taking everything in . He ended back staring at the Emperor. He then attempted to miserably stand at attention and saluted.
“Justy Ueki Tylor. Age 20”. Tylor’s eyes then rolled upward and he slowly collapsed to the transporter pad in a heap.
Constantus sighed. He was hoping for a more impressive specimen, but he knew looks can be deceiving. He really hoped the oracle was right. In spite of his disgust at his first meeting with this Tylor, he can’t help thinking he had met the man somewhere. He turned to the assembled team of technicians and officers. The group was looking at the heap with expressions ranging from shock and disgust. They were hoping to give the new heir a good first impression. Now it looks like that opportunity will have to wait.
“Get him cleaned and sobered up. Report when he’s recovered. I’ll be in my quarters.”
“Standard protocols, my lord” asked a female in the command uniform of a Romanoi Imperial starship captain. The emperor nodded and left the transporter room.
A few hours later, the emperor was at desk in one of the suite of rooms reserved for him. The art and décor of the room was similar of 4rth century Byzantium. Furniture carved in heavy woods and gilded in precious stones and metals. Murals of past heroes adorned the walls. Over his head was the insignia of the imperial house. The flaming sword raised by a hand. He was studying Tylor’s command record that was filched from the UFP headquarters by his intelligence team. He was mightily impressed. Victories against overwhelming odds. Secured a victory with loss to both sides. Yet, he was an enigma. His superiors and peers are of the opinion that was a fool who won by sheer good luck. Especially the reports made by one Commander Yuriko Starr.
The emperor snorted. “Only the gods takes care of fools and drunks. If, so then Tylor must be doubly blessed.” The emperor pondered. Yes, luck is the most important thing in the battlefield. But knowing what to look for and be prepared to seize that fleeting moment the luck gives . That is what makes a great leader. The emperor signed. The only one that comes close is his….
The emperor’s eyes moistened as he turned away from that train of thought. Years, decades has passed and he still cries at the memory. An intercom chime thankfully interrupted him.
“Yes”
“I’m sorry to interrupt you , sire. Our guest has awakened . We placed him in the guest quarters. He’s ready to see you.”
“Good”
“There’s something else, sire”
“Oh?”
“Our tests showed up something interesting. Our guest is…”
