The emperor couldn't believe it. Emotions surged through his chest. Hope, fear, excitement. Hope that his family line will not end with him. Fear that what he was hearing couldn't be true. Excitement at the possibilities this bit of good news.
"Explain." The voice at the other end of the line spoke one sentence.
The emperor gave thanks to the other end of the line and turned the intercom off. He slowly leaned back into his chair. A grin slowly formed. Then a smile. Then a chuckle and within moments he was roaring with a laughter that rang off the bulkheads. Wheezing from laughter and with tears of joy running down his face, it took him a few minutes to calm himself.
He wiped away the tears and looked to a large painting hanging in a place of honor. He want to the picture and lovingly placed his hand on the image. The picture was someone dear to him. Someone who he had hoped would be at his side. Someone whose disappearance caused him grief for years. How like the gods to torment him and then give him hope.
"So you live on" he whispered to the frame." He took the frame and went to the bathroom to freshen-up. As he left his stateroom, he made a mental note. Make a huge bequest to the oracle. No, better make that a new temple. Because of her, he found his lost...
