He was thinking.
The way he'd been raised had been in the Saotome School and one of the major precepts of Anything Goes was:
Action Before Thought. Taking time to think gives your opponent free attacks on your hide. Acting first gives you the first move and the advantage.
He'd cut ties with his past, and he hoped that Akane was right and that she was happy now that he was no longer in her life.
Still, he'd been the Saotome Heir. He'd learned other styles but it had always first and foremost to improve the Saotome Style. His father and the Saotome School and all the honor arrangements but mainly the Anything Goes school had always been the driving force in his life.
Even when it had been demonstrated that for all his talk of freedom, he was just a puppet jerked this way and that on a variety of strings, was he ready to sever those ties? To turn his back on the whole thing and start anew?
Finally Ranma came to a conclusion. He could turn loose of the Saotome School of Anything Goes Martial Arts. Now he would practice the Ranma School of Major League Buttwhupping. Or something like that. He figured he'd have some time to work out a better name.
When he walked back to the shrine, he noticed the short guy was working on some kind of engine and apparently not paying that much attention to anything else. Ranma nodded politely to the weird little robot dude patrolling the place, and followed his nose to the kitchen.
"So, Saotome-san, have you made a decision?" The Kasumi-esque person turned from the stove to regard him with a smile.
"Yeah. It's time this wild horse took his own stand, I think. I renounce Anything Goes and Happosai or whatever kinda wording you need with that sort of thing." Ranma declared.
"Good," said another voice, as Urd stepped into view, having followed the stalking Saotome. "We've got some advanced martial arts training for you as soon as you're ready."
"What's the cost?" Ranma asked, having enough experience with Nabiki (among others) to know this wasn't no free ride.
"You'll need to fight great evil and save innocent lives." Urd raised an eyebrow at the young man. "You up to it?"
