Slowly an Ohio-class sub made it's way through the see towards the Bering sea to maybe deliver an operative to a captured base in the Fox Archipelago, an island where
Ex-Colonel Roy Campell was to be the commander of the operation, if he hadn't been called to a radio. He frowned as he heard the voice.
"You WHAT?"
The voice on the other end seemed to frown like Campell.
"You heard me, The NSA is taking over this operation under the order of President Ryan. He authorized Fifth Freedom. Third Echelon is taking over."
Campell frowned a bit more.
"And how do you think your delivering your operative? Not with this sub, that's for sure."
The voice on the other side seemed to smile.
"We have our own ways."
As if on queue, a seaman burst into the room.
"Sir, we have a contact. It simply appeared out of nowhere."
The captain of the sub, stared at the seaman.
"Classification?"
"Unknown Typhoon. It simply..."
The seaman was interrupted as he saw a lieutenant smile.
"They really did it," he stated.
The captain, Campell and some other in the room looked at Lieutenant Jones.

Only three hundred meters starboard of the Ohio-class ship a large Typhoon slid through the water. The commander of the sub couldn't help but smile at some memories about this, his sub. Marco Ramius looked around. It had been nearly eighteen years since he and some of his crew left the 'Red October' and helped the Americans with the sub. He turned to Irving Lambert the chief of operations of 'Third Echelon' and their operative Sam Fisher.
"I can take you directly to the coast of the island. They won't know what hit them 'till it is to late."
In the past years the 'Red October' had become a test platform for new technologies, since the American Navy already knew most of it's technology save for the hydrodynamic drive that made the sub to a phantom: No sonar was able to find it save for active sonar scans.
