"What do you mean, 'they really did it'? Campbell asked.
"Sir, a long time ago I served on the Dallas. We were the ones who ended the 'Red Devil Incident' when we captured a Soviet Typhoon that was trying to defect. It had a new type of engine on it, a underwater jet if you will, that was virtually silent. Right now, they are ready to land him ashore with the enemy none the wiser." Jones answered.
"Damn it, get Lambert back on the line!" Campbell ordered. Jack Ryan or not, he was not going to let Lambert send in his operative, who probably looked like a rookie compared to Snake. Third Echelon was still intelligence after all, not black ops.
The chief of the watch informed him a moment later of the communication link, at which he walked over and picked up the line and heard the voice of Irving speak. "You wanted something Roy?" the voice asked, friendily.
"Look, we are just about to launch! We can't have your man getting in the way." Campbell forced on him relentlessy.
"Our 'man' is a hell of a lot better than you think." Lambert decided he could break protocal for once. "He is the one that took care of Nikoladze six months ago."
"You're sending in Fisher?" Campbell realized. "He's going to get shot up!"
"Who do you have then?" Lambert questioned.
"Solid Snake."
"...Snake has been out of the loop for years. He PTed, remember?"
"Let me remind you," Campbell retorted, " that that 'washout' took care of the Zanzibar and Outer Heaven crisies on his OWN. He even took care of both Metal Gears single handedly!"
"And Fisher has seen more action than you have grey hair." Lambert let out a sigh. "Look, can we work together on this?"
"How so? Send them both in?"
"Exactly."
Campbell paused for a second. "Let me get back to you." he said, hanging up.
