"Did she say where she was?" Madoka asked.
"No," Yohko said in answer. "I sort of forgot to ask, but I don't think she's far."
Madoka sighed in frustration.
"Time is of the essence here," Madoka said. "We can hope that this hunter struck his first target without locating another target, but the crime scene shows that he planned his hunt of the girl very well."
"Wait, I didn't see the crime scene," Yohko said.
"No, but I did while you were looking for Ayako's number," Madoka said.
"But that was only like..."
"An hour," Madoka said. "You need to keep your room better organized." She paused. "Though I suppose the fact that Azusa was experimenting with spellcasting again couldn't have helped."
"Well, I guess now we start looking for werewolves, witches and dragons," Yohko said.
"Check the archives, there may be some notes about families to check," Madoka said. "And remember to pay attention to stories of fox-wives and long-tailed cats. Werewolves may be rare among those Japanese touched by these heritages, but cats and foxes are not."
The doorbell rang and Madoka sighed.
"But first get the door," Madoka grumbled.
"It's probably Chi," Yohko said. She blinked. "She actually might be able to help." She walked to the door and opened it, surprised to see two men on the otherside. It didn't take her long to recognize them as the detectives from the scene of the previous night.
"We're here to speak to Mano Madoka," the forward most one said, a grim looking man in a close-fitting, though not exceptional, suit. Behind him was a younger man, handsome, in his late twenties maybe. "I'm Inspector Katano Yakamochi, and this is my partner, Tanaka Kensuke."

"We'd like to speak to you about this alone, Mano-san," Katano said, indicating Yohko.
"Yohko is my apprentice as well as my granddaughter," Madoka said, off-handedly. "She stays to listen and learn."
"This is grim business for a young lady," Tanaka warned. Madoka snorted.
"She knows the dangers of this road," Madoka assured him, waving for Yohko to keep quiet.
