Faking It: Pasts and BFG's [Episode 45878]

by Mantech1

.....the officer stepped out of the interrogation room, his face distinctly paler and a definite twitch to his hands that had formed themselves into fists without conscious effort. Reading Ranma's record he had come across several of the young mans exploits and troubles for in Nerima the police there were underfunded (most of the money went to construction crews) to the extent that they could only keep track of the martial artists who lived there and gather as much information on them as possible. Along with Ranma's file were several dozen links to unsolved cases that might be linked to either Ranma or his father Genma.

Using the time it took to walk to the observation room and gather the video tape he composed himself as much as possible. And as he realized what a gold mine this tape would be he even felt a glimmer of hope for Ranma in the next room.

With careful precision and not a little bounce in his step he walked intot he chiefs office and closed the door. "Sir, I believe the officers in Nerims would appreciate this evidence."

The chief was in a good mood for once, since there'd been no alien invasions or sudden appearance of stupid looking people in tights, decided to listen. But if the officer ruined his good mood....well. Reaching under his desk he softly patted the BFG he kept hidden there for emergencies. "Suppose you tell me why instead of leaving me here in suspense?"

Without missing a beat the officer told the chief how he'd come across Ranma, their talk at his desk which lead to Ranma revealing his curse, then a abbreviated version of what Ranma said in the interrogation room (abbreviated in this case sense Ranma's story was about three hours long since the officer kept asking for clarification at one point or another).

The chief listened and at certain parts nodded his understanding bt when the officer was finished he (meaning the chief) couldn't help the smile on his face. Yet as he asked his first question he made sure he had a solid grip on the handle of the BFG, just in case. "Does the boy know you want to put him in 'Witness Protection'?"

"Thats just it, sir. He doesn't want to go back to that life, not now, not ever. But he's the sort to disdain just running away, the only reason he's even here instead of back in Nerima is because he let himself get drunk and wondered here. That isn't likely to happen again sir. And you know what sort of stuff he'd face in Nerima."

The chief knew exactly what the officer meant by that. Forgetting the techniques that the Amazon's knew for wiping memories their were enough magical items in Nerima to wipe the memories if not entire minds of a hundred people, not to mention the magical items that didn't erase memories but changed the behavious of the people they were used on usually resulting in love-slaves. In such cases the police force their could intervene with a hefty dose of assistance from a couple of the martial artists but by and large Nerima was a place for raw recruits to cut their teeth knowing that even with guns they could be taken down by just about any five-year old martial artist and forced to watch and in some cases act as truancy officers.

"I'll take that as a no. So we'll both talk to him about this, but lets all talk over lunch since I missed breakfast (actually his breakfast just.....disappeared) and I'm sure the boy.."

"Ranma." The officer helpfully corrected and internally sighed in relief as the chief was already too far from his desk to grab that BFG.

".............................Ranma, is hungry." The chief stood corrected and internally wished that he was holding that BFG.
