Serenity's Guard: Welcome to your new life, Ranma Saotome [Episode 47422]

by The Demented Redhead

It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

Ranma had taken the Three Goddesses up on their offer. He had renounced both his school and Happosai.

He had been cured of his curse ... though their idea of a cure was to grant him control of it, instead of removing it. They said their father had forbidden it, due to some sort of karmic imbalance that still resided in his soul, beyond what priests on Earth could fix.

This meant he had to learn to control it, or he’d change from certain situations.

But the training in the very powerful techniques had been good, and he had even been able to keep a few he knew that he himself had made, that were not officially within the school of Anything Goes.

But now he was a student of Infinity School Fighting Arts, a school that according to Skuld, was invented by an analog of him from another universe.

Weird.

But then he got the full information packet on who he was to protect.

Flashback...

“Her name is Usagi Tsukino, a reincarnated princess from a long dead kingdom,” stated Urd.

Ranma sighed. It figured that he’d have to deal with princesses eventually. I mean, with his karma for dealing with princes, it was only logical.

At least to him. “So why do I gotta guard her?” he asked.

Skuld growled. “That’s it, I’m making that machine to download knowledge and etiquette into his head!”

She had came up with the idea after watching him eat.

“She is destined to lead humanity into a state of apotheosis.”

Seeing his blank look, and ignoring Skuld tearing out of there to start on the machine, she continued. “She will lead humanity into a reign of peace and prosperity, where most of the evils of mankind will be defeated.”

Ranma scratched his head. “No offense, but won’t that mess up the cosmic balance or something like that.”

The two goddesses stared at him. Ranma Saotome, boy voted least likely to be able to solve (X + 0 = 0), had just pointed out the major flaw to such a creation.

“That is true, Ranma-kun,” smiled Belldandy. “As things stand now, the paradise they create will fall just as the former kingdom did.”

“Which is why we said ‘most’ of the evils,” corrected Urd. “Some things must not be changed. The kingdom that fell was obsessed with Order, thus the universe created beings of chaos that wiped it out.”

“You will both guard her from threats and help enlighten her away from the self-destructive path she has started out on.”

Ranma nodded, somewhat understanding. It was okay to create a paradise, but not to the point where it forced the universe to balance it out.

“I’m finished!” shouted Skuld, bringing out a large technological helmet. “Now to give you some common sense!”

Ranma had enough common sense to read the fear on both Urd’s face as well as Keiichi, who had just come in. Said boy paled, turned around, and walked out.

So Ranma demonstrated what common sense he did have.

“COME BACK HERE!” yelled Skuld, chasing after him with the helmet.

“It’s nice of Ranma-kun to play with Skuld,” smiled Belldandy, as she returned to the kitchen to finish the meal.

So he went to meet her, after Belldandy transported him there.

Sadly, it was right after she had hung up her phone, after a break-up with the on-again/off-again boyfriend Mamoru Chiba, who was not coming back home during the break, because “other stuff” had come up.

Which meant she was sad.

She wanted to cry.

So he let her cry as she clung to him.

Somehow, they went from her crying to her dragging him to a theater to see the new movie she wanted to see, “Burning Lotus”, so she could prove that she didn’t need Mamoru to be happy.

At first, Ranma didn’t mind, as the movie sounded like an action flic.

He was wrong; it was a chic-flic.

He was also thankful of the debit card he was given to pay for what he needed.

She ate three large tubs of popcorn ... by herself, even the one he had set on the other side of himself for him to eat.

And she had ordered a Diet Pepsi. She ate all that ... and wanted a diet drink.

And she ... was supposed to lead humanity to a better future.

He was so confused and wondering if perhaps the Gods were having some fun at his expense, that he didn’t notice she had placed his arm around her, and was now snuggling into his side, sighing happily.

But someone who was watching them did.
