Angel and Phoenix: NERVous Reactions [Episode 47685]

by Disruptor

At NERV, Gendo Ikari was sitting at his desk. He played the scene of Danagioh appering on a small monitor. His fists slammed down on either side of the desk.

"How? How did that thing get built? Gunji Yonamine must have survived, but how was he able to keep something like that a secret from Seele?"

Gendo flipped through the Dangaioh Project folder and trembled with anger. His plans had to be rethought and somehow try to keep NERV from being declared superfulous by the United Nations.

"At least Seele will agree that Dangaioh is not in their best interests as well."

He picked up the folder and headed to the room that he used to converse with Seele.

The EVA pilots were stting in the NERV cafeteria and going over the recent additon to the world.

"I'm glad we didn't have to fight those robots," Shinji said. "It is nice that there are others to help out."

"Nice?!" Asuka demanded. "It case you didn't notice, that thing is stronger than our EVA units. We'll probably be sent home, because we are no longer needed."

"Is that so bad?" Shinji asked. "We don't have to put our lives in danger any more."

Asuka fumed and turned away from Shinji.

Silent til now, Rei spoke up. "The Evangelion project and NERV will be left in place."

Asuka glared at Rei. "What makes you say that?"

"The EVA's were built to fight Angels. Dangaioh was built to fight something else. It has something to do with the White God."

"White God?" Asuka asked, in a strained voice. "I thought that was just a story."

Rei shook her head. "It was the most important moment in human history until Second Impact. After Second Impact, people forgot all about it. You can still go into any library and pull up the videos of the fight."

Asuka stood up. "I think I'll do just that. White God? Yeesh."

Rei and Shinji watched her go. After she had left the cafteria, Shinji went back to his lunch. Rei stared in the direction of the Evangelion units and shook her head.

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Misato sat in Ritsuko's office and stared at the scientist.

Misato said, "Okay. I went and got the children to fight those robots and then it turned out to be all for nothing because of some defunct project that refused to die. What is the Dangaioh Project?"

Ritsuko sipped coffee from a paper cup and mentall sighed. She set down her drink and rubbed the bridge of her nose.

"As was mentioned, it was/is a simmilar project to the Evangelions. The main differece is that they used/are using self contained power supplies and the machines are built far differenlty than the EVA's. Jet Alone had more in common with the EVA's than those three robots. I do not know how Gunji Yonamine pulled it off though. He was able to keep both the secret of him still being alive and being able to get Dangaioh built with no one the wiser."

"Who is Gunji Yonamine?" Misato asked.

Ritsuko stood up and paced. "He was supposed to be dead by a sabotuer's bomb blast. He was a former Major of the JSDF. He was one of the best Majors that the JSDF ever had. His family has connections to many powerful corporations and orginizations. During the time when both projects were running openly at the same time, there were talks about having Gunji Yonamine put in charge of NERV and scrapping the Dangaioh project. Even then, the Dangaioh project was seen as nothing more than a waste of funds."

Ritsuko shook her head and continued, "Heck, even the Evangelion project was in jeaporday at that time. A bomb blast supposedly killing Yonamine and scrapping the Dangaioh project, freed up funds to head to NERV. Which brings us to today. Both the Evangelion project and the Dangaioh project are completed and both bases are in operation."

Misato asked, "So where does that leave us in the UN's eyes?"

"I don't know."
