Chiropterans: Deaf and Dumb [Episode 48279]

by Thrythlind

Wererats have excellent hearing. Correction, they have tremendous hearing. In some ways, they even had better hearing than werejaguars and elves.

In some ways. You see, while a wererat probably couldn't make sense of sounds as weak and faint as those a werejaguar or elf could, they could hear in a much higher range. They could almost hear a range as wide as a werebat, in fact.

Unfortunately for certain wererats, however, they did not have the necessary developments to actually handle sounds in the same range they could hear. Which is way three particular wererats were currently bleeding out of their ears and waiting for their regeneration to fix the problem so they could hear again.

Well...technically, that's what they were doing.

"What was that?" Romeo asked, shouting loudly in an effort to be able to hear himself.

"What?" Lydia asked in rseponse.

"Chwa!!" Moisha whined, covering her ears. "My ears hurt!!"

"What are you saying?" Romeo asked.

"Quit $#%in' around!" Lydia shouted. "The place is around here somewhere!"

'Shouldn't we be getting back to our mission?" Romeo asked.

"Like, we don't have time for these games," Moisha declared. "Mountainous debt, Master Zero, Elder Gothwrain, do like any of these ring a bell?"

"Don't just move your $#%#in' mouth!" Lydia snapped. "Say something!"

"Can you hear me?" Romeo demanded.

Kasumi stared at the three gaijin as she passed them by, rather confused by their behavior. Though it quickly occured to her that for some reason they were having trouble hearing. Given their behavior, this wasn't normal.

She walked up cautiously towards them, trying to catch their eyes before approaching them. When she finally did they looked at her confused as she tried to pantomime the question as to whether they could hear or not.

"Like, what's her problem?" Moisha asked.

"What the #$%# is that?" Lydia asked feeling a surge of guilt, for some reason, as she cursed in front of the girl.

"We're going to be deaf forever!" Raphiel moaned.

Finally, Kasumi ascertained that they were indeed having problems hearing. She gestured for them to stay and went into the Tendo complex. She paused at the telephone desk and retrieved the notebook she kept for taking messages, not noticing the broken glass further into the building yet.

When next she came out she handed the rats a hand drawn map with the word "doctor" written in English on it. Along with this, she gave them a note.

"What's it say?" Romeo asked Moisha through sign language.

Lydia growled, suddenly breaking into a flashing, high-speed series of gestures with her hands. Much of what she said was untranslatable into spoken or written language.

"Errr," Moisha signed timidly. "There's, like, you know a doctor over this way."

"Fine," Lydia snapped crisply with her fingers. "Couldn't hurt."

"Arigato gozaimasu," Moisha yelled at the top of her lungs before the three traipsed off toward Dr. Tofu's.

"I wonder why they were trying to talk if they knew sign," Kasumi said curiously, unaware that was much the content of Lydia's ranting speech.
