"I wonder if they have a good place to buy donuts here," Vash commented.
"'Donuts'?"
"Oh yeah... They're nice and soft and warm and always oh so good..."
"Um... right."
As they walked over to the counter, the woman looked up and smiled at them. "Well hi there! I'm Deloris. How c'n I help you two folk?"
"We sort of were in need of a room..," Vash told her.
"Were you now?"
"Yeah, and the sheriff pointed us in this direction," Rogue put in.
"Then that would make you the two folk that he gone and hired ta help us with our raider problem!"
"Uh... That's what he said. Did he tell you about us?"
"If'n he didn't, the news woulda passed around too quick anyway. Little town like this can't help but pass stories like that."
"But do you have rooms for us?"
"That's sort of the problem, now isn't it?"
"What do you mean?"
"Due to all sorts of little problems, we got only one room ta give ya."
"Only one room?"
"If ya don't mind sleepin' in a room with busted up windows and bullet holes in the walls, I can help ya there."
"Could it at least have two beds in it?"
"Sorry 'bout that, but it's got only the one."
"Hold on a second. You want me," Rogue told Deloris pointing at herself, "And him," she continued, pointing at Vash, "To sleep together in the same bed."
"It's the only thing that I can give ya folks, cause of the damage. But a pretty gal like you and good lookin' man like him shouldn't have any problem with the honeymoon suite."
"'Honeymoon Suite'?! We aren't married!"
"You're not? Shame there, but I suppose that a couple got the right ta live like they wanna."
"Listn, we're not married. We're not a couple. He's a Ranger and I'm his apprentice."
"So, lot'sa girls fall inta bein' with their teachers like that."
"ARGH!" growled the pale girl in frustration. "I am not having any sort of affair with him! Not once! We're travelling together, and he's teaching me how to fight. That's IT!"
"Pretty worked up about nothin', now aren't ya?"
While Rogue looked for something to hit, Vash stepped in. "Are you sure that you can't give us anything else?"
"Nope. You and your lady friend aren't goin' ta be able ta have any other room for now."
"When can we get another room?"
"A couple a' days after the Milita comes. We'll have the time ta fix everythin' up right pretty until then."
"I guess that we'll take it then."
"All right then. Just put your names on the register, And we'll be checkin' ya in."
"Sure," the Ranger replied and reached down to write his and Rogue's name on the book Deloris had indicated.
"Thank you," Deloris told them holding out a key and taking the payment.
"No, thank you," Vash told the woman before turning to Rogue, "Come on, we've got to go and get you some equipment."
"Oh, alright," Rogue grumped and the pair made their way to the door.
"Girl can't take a little teasin'. Maybe she's likin' him more than she's tellin'," mumured Deloris with a shrug, while:
