Gauln growled as he waited for the envoy of his employer to show up. If this had been the old days, the bitch of his employer or her underlings wouldn't dare to be late, either in payment or meetings.
But times had changed, hadn't it, Gauln reflected to himself
It had been a simple life back then before the nuclear war ruined the world. He had been a mercenary who served no one but himself as the organization that he pit himself and his skill against, Mythril, could attest to.
A simple master plan to torment all who stood in his path.
Which given that he was a mutant who simply couldn't die, the path would prove to be long... very long.
Then that cult started and gained momentum in Japan, and before any of the world powers knew it. The cult of Serenity was in control of Japan. The US of A couldn't stand for a theocracy in one was supposed to be its allies.
The Asian powers around Japan were also nervous, for the head of the cult was a metahuman, most likely one of the rare mutants with super powers. And Neo-Queen Serenity was very charismatic with a simple philosphy of love and peace, which resulted in cults forming all over the world in her name.
Things came to a head when the Serenity applied for her nation to be permitted to join the United Nations. Not only was her envoy humiliated and ejected from the building, but the leading nations of the world led by the US gave an ultimatum to Serenity; She would step down from power and a new leader would be 'elected' in an intern government, as she was in the eyes of the world an unelected dictator.
Serenity refused.
And war was waged.
To the ships and planes that blockaded Japan, to cut off its food and supplies from the rest of the world. The senshi that formed Serenity's cabal simply ignored as new sources of food and energy was developed by the one known as Mercury.
When spies were inserted in, they were simply teleported out to their home nations the moment they stepped on Japanese soil.
It was when they started to sent in war planes and cruise missiles that Serenity and her Senshi showed how simply powerful they were.
A dome around the entire Japanese landmass formed and prevented any form of entry into Japan.
The US and the other nations of power were stymed for a few months, before their leaders launched nuclear missiles at the dome to bring it down.
It was the barrage of nuclear missiles that triggered Serenity's vengence as she simply returned the missiles to their origins.
The nuclear explosions covered the nations of the world and civilization outside of Crystal Japan was no more. The mutations and nuclear winter that followed nearly ended humanity, but humanity adapted and survived.
And now many decades later, Gauln waited for the envoy; one of the fabled and powerful Sailor Senshi.
For you see, Serenity had finally decided to expand into the world; the peace of Crystal Japan and its capital, Crystal Tokyo, would soon be known by the world.
But such a gift couldn't come free... and that was where people like Gauln came in, they were given a gift that would be used to scout out the areas where the magical leylines were strong and where a seed could be planted to increase the range of the 'Great Ice' effect and the resulting purification that Serenity planned for the surviving humans of the world.
