Unfortunately for Ranma, the job as still at a restaraunt. On the plus side, however, there was no way Akane could get upset about it. It wasn't at the Nekohanten nor Ucchan's, after all. Instead it was at a place inspired by the American 'Chuck E. Cheese's' chain. 'Freddy Fazbear's Pizza' needed a new guard for the night shift, midnight to six in the morning. Seemed easy enough for him, and it'd let him get the drop on his father in the mornings for once! Plus, it didn't interfere with school (not that he really cared about that), and kept unwanted.... guests from slipping into his futon with him.
Then he went in, got his brief instructions on what to do and how the place ran off of a back-up generator at night to cut costs, thus limiting what he had to work with for his six hour shift. He also got quickly introduced to the three main animatronics. Freddy Fazbear, the bear, Bonnie, the purple rabbit and Chica, the chicken (Which he thought looked rather duck-like at first.) So I gotta save on power? Shouldn't be too hard. He thought. It was five minutes before midnight as he sat in the ratty swivel chair in the small office he'd been given. Seeing a small fan on the desk, he shut it off to save on the power, ignoring any real details of his surroundings in that tiny room. Well, aside from either door having a pair of buttons beside them. One to close it off and another for a light outside in the halls. The only other things on his desk were a typical office phone and a tablet. Looking at the latter also the most high-tech thing in the office, he found it was how he'd have access to the cameras. Quickly, he tested each button on the walls, noting a power usage meter on the tablet that changed depending on if the lights were left on, doors left closed or if any cameras were in use. Good thing I checked those over before the generator kicked in, he thought.
The quiet of the entire building was broken by the phone on the desk ringing, making the pigtaild martial artist acting as the night watchman start a bit. Not sure if the phone would drain power, and it having just struck midnight, he let the answering machine get it.
"Hello? Hello, hello? Uh, I wanted to record a message for you to help you get settled in on your first night. Um, I actually worked in that office before you. I'm finishing up my last week now, as a matter of fact. So, I know it can be a bit overwhelming, but I'm here to tell you there's nothing to worry about. Uh, you'll do fine. So, let's just focus on getting you through your first week. Okay?"
"Geez, this guy sounds awkward," Ranma mused to himself hearing the beginning of the message.
"Uh, let's see, first there's an introductory greeting from the company that I'm supposed to read. Uh, it's kind of a legal thing, you know. Um, 'Welcome to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. A magical place for kids and grown-ups alike, where fantasy and fun come to life. Fazbear Entertainment is not responsible for damage to property or person. Upon discovering that damage or death has occurred, a missing person report will be filed within 90 days, or as soon property and premises have been thoroughly cleaned and bleached, and the carpets have been replaced.'"
Death? He wondered, What could possibly do that? More importantly, WHY would that need to even be mentioned?
"Blah blah blah, now that might sound bad, I know, but there's really nothing to worry about. Uh, the animatronic characters here do get a bit quirky at night, but do I blame them? No. If I were forced to sing those same stupid songs for twenty years and I never got a bath? I'd probably be a bit irritable at night too. So, remember, these characters hold a special place in the hearts of children and we need to show them a little respect, right? Okay.
"So, just be aware, the characters do tend to wander a bit. Uh, they're left in some kind of free roaming mode at night. Uh...Something about their servos locking up if they get turned off for too long. Uh, they used to be allowed to walk around during the day too. But then there was The Bite of '87. Yeah. I-It's amazing that the human body can live without the frontal lobe, you know?"
"Riiiiiight...." He muttered, mentally telling himself to check in on this 'Bite of '87' thing.
"Uh, now concerning your safety, the only real risk to you as a night watchman here, if any, is the fact that these characters, uh, if they happen to see you after hours probably won't recognize you as a person. They'll p-most likely see you as a metal endoskeleton without its costume on. Now since that's against the rules here at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, they'll probably try to...forcefully stuff you inside a Freddy Fazbear suit. Um, now, that wouldn't be so bad if the suits themselves weren't filled with crossbeams, wires, and animatronic devices, especially around the facial area. So, you could imagine how having your head forcefully pressed inside one of those could cause a bit of discomfort...and death. Uh, the only parts of you that would likely see the light of day again would be your eyeballs and teeth when they pop out the front of the mask, heh.
"Y-Yeah, they don't tell you these things when you sign up. But hey, first day should be a breeze. I'll chat with you tomorrow. Uh, check those cameras, and remember to close the doors only if absolutely necessary. Gotta conserve power. Alright, good night."
Having already heard about the power issue, he rolled his eyes, though the 'danger' mentioned about not being seen as human by those robots on the stage almost made him wish for Ryoga's Bakusai Tenketsu training. While looking through the cameras during and after the call, he thought he saw the bear, Freddy if he recalled, staring at where the camera was. Part of him felt like that bear was really looking at him. However this happened so quickly that by the time he switched back to the stage camera the bear was once more looking straight ahe--
"Where'd that rabbit go?" He asked the empty room, noticing Bonnie, the purple animatronic, missing from the stage. Quickly, he tipped the tablet up to look in the cameras for that rascally rabbit, finding it:
