She went almost a quarter mile before she was sufficiently winded to lean against a tree and begin gasping for breath.

Of course, this being a contest and a virtual realm run by the fae, they were hardly done with her yet.

• Akane discovers she's run in a circle and she's stepped in dead Ranma.
• The tree opens up around Akane, swallowing her up. After a few minutes another tree grows nearby, one that looks like Akane sort of.
• Akane hears strangely compelling music being played nearby.
• meanwhile someone else is facing virtual problems.
