"Harry. Like you, I have certain value in the eyes of the wizarding world. If I were to let this event pass with no response it would soon be forgotten. But..." And here Kodachi smiled, petting her serpent. "If I were to leave House Slytherin because of it..."
"Draco would get the blame for driving you out." Hermione concluded.
"Exactly. We turn a forgettable event into a permanent blow. Because it is the support of certain families that gives Draco's such power. All of those families revere Slytherin, and my being in Slytherin is viewed as the closest thing to offsetting Harry being in another house. It drives a wedge between the Malfoys and their supporters if Draco is seen as responsible for driving me out."
Lights were coming on in the Gryffindor's faces as they got it. Karen and Melody were also feeling enlightened. The two Slytherin girls leaned forward to ask of their friend eagerly. "So what do you want us to do?"
"Do you want Karen and I to leave, too?"
Kodachi's plan hadn't gone further than herself, but the eager insistence to help that could be seen in her two closest friends' faces took the idea one step further. She toyed with her snake's tail, stroking it between her fingers, while admitting. "That... might help my plans. I think you know whom to tell?"
The girls nodded and were off like a shot.
"So you'll be going to Ravenclaw, than?" Hermione ventured, knowing about the reputation of Hecate's children.
