"GRYFFINDOR!!" The hat shouted.
Uproarious applause met this announcement. The Gryffindor table came to their feet and people were pounding each other's backs while somebody shouted in Harry's ear. "We've got a Hecate!"
The silence from Slytherin's table was deafening.
Harry cheered and smiled along with the rest as Madam Pomfrey escorted the frail girl to their table, seating her right next to Harry, while Colin shoved his way close, snapping a roll of pictures from near and far. Harry was grinning - he didn't know why, Hermione was smiling as she sat at Kodachi's other side, and the world seemed to have erupted in Weaselys as even Percy got in on the act of shouting and congratulating everyone around, but especially his new house member and her friends. Even the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff tables shouted and cheered, glad to see the pompus Slytherins taken down a notch.
The response from the Slytherins changed from silence to puzzlement as two girls, followed by twos and threes and then more of the first and second years got up from their tables and headed to the front of the hall where McGonagal was still waiting by the hat, tears dewing the corners of her eyes as she thought about what this meant.
"Excuse me." Karen said to McGonagal, as the students got noticed followed by a newly deafening silence in the room. "But we would like to be resorted also."
The Slytherin table groaned.
At the head table, Severus' Snape's face was stony.
Minerva McGonagal looked to the headmaster, who gave a very grave and measured nod, to which Severus replied with a strangled gasp. Hiding her own expression, Minerva proceeded to take the students in order, then applying the hat to their heads as...
