Still, aside from that, the ride here had been entirely pleasant. She had met three people her apparent age who seemed like they would be good friends in the future. And, her lips curled into a slight smile, perhaps they would all be in the same house together. Hermione's recital of the House qualities had had her leaning towards Slytherin, but after running into that weasel Malfoy she was rather hoping that wouldn't happen.
A commotion near the front of the room brought her attention back to the present and she realized that professor...McGonnal?...was saying something.
"Now, as your name is called, each of you are to come forward and put on the Sorting Hat. After you have been Sorted, you will then proceed to your house table and allow the next individual to be sorted. We will begin with a Miss Jessica Arnsdale."
Kodachi watched in fascination as the named girl walked nervously to the front of the room and sat upon the small stool placed beside the Hat. With a hesitant motion, Jessica then reached over and placed the seemingly non-descript item of clothing on her head. Not moments after, the Hat actually _moved_ and a shout of, "Hufflepuff!" rang across the room, followed by much applause and the young child slipping off the seat and jogging across the room to her new table.
The rest of the sortings seemed to pass by quickly, the only one of note to Kodachi being Hermione's into Griffindor. Soon after that, the call of "Kodachi Hecate" rang out in the large room and she quickly made her way to the front.
"Well, let's see what we have here," a low voice said in her ear, startling her. "Surely a tangle of emotions to deal with.... Quite anxious to please right now, rather focused on helping others in fact.... I sense ambition simmering behind all that though--"
"No." Kodachi said it firmly. She was tired of ambition, always having to do the right thing at the right time, just to forward the agenda's of her parents, or her brother....or, she would be honest with herself, her own goals. She was just going to... to... well, live and enjoy herself with her new friends. Make the most of this second chance she had been given.
A low chuckle emanated from the hat sitting on her head. "Well, Slytherin just won't do then, nor will the accomplishments of Ravenclaw. You might fit well in Hufflepuff with a few more years of that attitude, but for now I think it needs to be.... GRIFFINDOR!!"
The loud cheering that had greeted each of the first-years repeated itself and Kodachi beamed as she moved over next to Hermione. The next few students passed by without her notice as she received congratulations all around and then she turned her attention back to the Sorting.
She knew none of the students until her new friend Harry sat upon the stool she had occupied just recently. As he placed the Hat upon his head, the broad brim slipping down somewhat further than it should, an expectant hush fell over the crowd. The tension of the Houses peaked as a minute passed, then another, until finally, a cry rang out in the hall.
"SLYTHERIN!!"
"There's only room in this world for one Voldemort, 'Tom', and you know it. With my plan, we both get what we want. You can be Voldemort...and I get to see the Voldemort I really want pay for what he did to my parents."
