Harry gave every indication of nonchalance, but his fingers tightened on his wand before he forced them to relax. "Voldemort is desperate for a body, what do you think the first thing he's going to do after he hears that you're walking around? A perfect match, in the prime of your life." He snorted. "You'll be lucky to last out the year, even in hiding."
"You underestimate me--"
"No, I think _you_ underestimate yourself. Voldemort managed to find out about the Sorcerer's Stone, which probably not more than half a dozen people knew was on the way to Hogwarts. Surely she--" He nudged Ginny's form with his foot, then turned his attention back to Tom Riddle. "--told you about that little debacle?"
"I might have heard something of it. And perhaps you do have a point, it will be difficult to hide news of the reopening of the Chamber of Secrets from myself. Still..." His lip curled as he looked down at the still form before him. "It is hardly a palatable solution to the problem."
"But it will work, you have to admit that. And I need time, I can't face Voldemort while I'm still learning, but I'm not going to have that choice. I'm sure of it. This gives me a little...surprise for him." Harry shifted the book to one hand and reached into his pocket, pulling out a heavy vial filled with a viscous green liquid and crouched slightly to set it on the ground.
Riddle glanced at the potion with revulsion, then turned back to Potter. "Where did you get Polyjuice Potion?"
Harry frowned, then glanced back towards the caved in entrance to the Chamber. "I took it off of Kodachi and that bloody ass Ron when they snuck into Slytherin's quarters to question Malfoy. My payment for keeping their little secret instead of turning them in to McGonnagal and Snape.
"You need to make your decision, Riddle." He held up a hand to ward off the correction. "Voldemort, whatever. We don't have much time before Kodachi and Ron get through that rubble, and this..." His foot nudged Ginny's comatose form again. "...needs hidden, preferably at least somewhat alive...if you can manage that."
Tom frowned, then knelt and pulled a wand from Ginny's robes and picked up the vial of Polyjuice Potion. With a flick of the wand, the young girl was lifted into the air so a hair could be plucked from her wild mane. "I'll see what can be done. This doesn't mean I will be going along with all your little plans, but we can discuss the details later."
