Kitty Senshi: Time on her hands [Episode 52706]

by Kestral

Time was her medium. Her responsibility.

She took her responsibility seriously.

She would never ever ever do something like:

-----------1969-----------

"You two are such good friends," said the mysterious substitute teacher with her odd red eyes and long green-tinted hair.

"Hai! We just met last week, right Nodoka-chan?"

"Hai, Naoko-chan!"

The substitute teacher nodded. "You know, I've heard of this odd custom in Zaire. If two girls are really really good friends..."

Naoko and Nodoka listened, they were two fourteen year olds but they were already friends as if they'd known each other longer.

"What is it?" Nodoka asked.

"Tell us!" pleaded Naoko. "My family's going to move next week and I may never see Nodoka-chan again!"

"Well," said the substitute thoughtfully. "They make a pledge that if one has a son and the other has a daughter, they'll unite the families. That way they can be sisters..."

Nodoka clapped her hands. "What an interesting custom! It sounds like something practiced by some of the old samurai families."

The substitute nodded. "Why, you're right. I believe I have heard of something similar."

Naoko grabbed Nodoka's hands. "Why not? The odds are against it ever turning out that way, but it could be fate!"

"Well," said Nodoka, a little uncertain now, "we don't have the proper paper for that sort of thing."

"Oh. Well, if you wanted to try it out, I was just returning this calligraphy set and this paper to storage," said the substitute, reaching into her satchel.

-------1992---------

Sailor Pluto whistled happily as she entered the currently empty Saotome house, reached into a box of old papers, and withdrew a marriage contract.

She left it where it would be easily found. With it was a newspaper article that Nodoka had missed but Setsuna had not.

Odd that. It seemed that Naoko Masui married Kenji Kino and had a daughter named Makoto. According to the article that Makoto Kino's mother had died in an airplane accident but the daughter had survived and was trying to make it on her own.

Sailor Pluto vanished from the Saotome home just as Nodoka arrived from grocery shopping.

She would never ever do something like that, or:

------1985-------

"Hey you bullies! Leave her alone!"

"I can handle... oooh. That was cool! Can I call you sempai?"

-----1992------

"You know, Makoto, you might want to ask Ranma if he'd be willing to train you on a regular basis. He wants to be a martial arts sensei someday and it would be good training. Plus you're always worrying about your skills getting rusty."

Makoto pursed her lips thoughtfully. "Good point. Hey, when did you show up, Setsuna-san?"

"Just swinging by," said Setsuna with a mysterious smile. "If you're worried about paying him, I'm sure he could go for some of your cooking."

Makoto brightened slightly at the thought of not damaging her budget. "That's a really good idea. Uh oh. This doesn't have to do anything with some menace to the future does it?"

"Not quite," said Setsuna as she walked around the corner.

"What do you mean not quite?! Oh hell, she's gone again." Makoto grumbled to herself.
