"I say that is I who goes to distract Potter-san," Kodachi said as she watched her knight go after Ron's castle. "After all, between the three of us, I do have the most knowledge and skill to challenge him in a wizard's duel. I've been most interested in finding out just what he can do."
"Blood 'ell no," Ron winced as his castle died, but his strategy was working, Kodachi was focussed on one side of the board, while his net closed in on her king. "I can't let you do that... you saw what he did to Malfroy. Yeah, Draco might be a bloody wanker of a Slytherin, but what that oh so great and mighty Potter did to him in the dueling club was just plain harsh, and he wasn't even breaking a sweat beating down on him. I can't just let a friend of my take that kind of a beating."
"Ron-kun, you think too little of my skills, while it's true that Potter is good, but he isn't the best."
"Kodachi, he took down Draco with a spell and then continued to hit him while he was down. I don't think Harry would be honorable enough to let you go if you get in trouble," Ron looked at his friend seriously. "This... it's dangerous... if I get in trouble, at least you'll be there to pull me back out... but if you get in trouble... we're all in trouble."
Hermione sighed, it was simply annoying the way those two let their preceptions of Harry Potter cloud their judgement. And yet, it was like they could go up to him and ask him what had happened in the Chamber of Secrets. Or could they?
That was when she made up her mind.
"Excuse me, if you're just going to argue about who gets to fight Harry Potter, I think I'll pop off to the library and talk to Ginny. I know I can convince her to tell me," Hermione blinked as her comment simply went over their heads and were totally ignored.
Hermione sighed to herself, it wasn't like it was a secret that Harry and Gunny hid out in the library alot, much like her. They, too, were also hunters of knowledge, it was simply that she didn't approve of the direction Harry took his studies, while Harry had simply informed her that 'knowledge without direction was worse then being without knowledge'.
In a sense she could see where he was coming from, but she also knew that the saying 'Fight not monsters, lest you become one' applied very much so to him...
Harry had laughed at one, but... the laughter, she could hear something small and yet vital broken inside of it. It was not kind not pleasent to hear.
It was a shame, he seemed like such a nice boy when they had first met. But now, he was so dark and intense.
There was an attraction and allure to that dark intensity, after all, she had seen quite a few girls from all four Houses mooning over him on occassion.
In any event, Hermione kept an eye out for her targets...
Who were giggling and smiling at one another over a... comic book? Hermione blinked... this was... rather surreal to her.
Harry Potter acting... human. It almost seemed impossible, and yet it was right there in front of her eyes.
