A polite cough caught his attention and he halted the step he had inadvertantly taken towards Potter to look back at his companions.
Hermione and Kodachi were quite the pair. He didn't think he'd ever seen two girls that hung around together so often but looked so different. Kodachi almost always had her hair perfect, all her clothes just so, and features that were as even as you got. Hermione on the other hand had hair that he didn't think could be tamed even with a spell and front teeth that were, well, large.
"Come on, Ron. Ginny just got out of the infirmary, do you really want to upset her by confronting Harry again?" Hermione asked once she had his attention.
Kodachi nodded from beside her and chimed in herself. "Harry did just manage to save her as well. I don't think he's going to turn around and do something to her."
"Don't bloody remind me." Ron shook his head and started down a corridor heading away from Harry Potter, trusting the two girls would follow. "If there's one thing Ginny didn't need, it was another reason to worship the great twit."
"You're just jealous," Kodachi teased, her voice kept subdued as they passed a 6th year class where the students were chanting "Ribidius Maxima Hogglesnop Perfectum!" again and again. "You wanted to be the great hero and Harry Potter got to snag the credit again."
Ron just muttered and turned his head to examine a rather boring historical treatise/proclamation that was following the group from picture to picture down the hall, held by a rather portly herald.
Hermione waved her hand at him, pulling his attention reluctantly back to the conversation. "I'm sure Ginny realizes the part you played in this Ron. You were the one who realized that we needed someone who spoke Parseltongue after all."
"And you think the great Harry Potter told Ginny that?" Ron looked at Hermione and made a show of examining her head. "I think that big brain of yours is shrinking."
Hermione rolled her eyes and turned her head up as they finally reached class. "I'm sure he'll get around to it. He may be in Slytherin but he's not as bad as most of that lot."
Kodachi made a face at that comment, but the trio made their way into the class and took some seats in the back before she replied. "Still, he's awfully sneaky anymore and he definitely wasn't saying something about what happened down in the Chamber of Secrets."
Hermione noted Professor Binns finally arriving and hurried her comment. "Maybe Ron can ask Ginny about it?"
"All well and good," Ron said, "but Potter's going to be right there and you know it. Ginny's not likely to say anything with him around."
Kodachi nodded in agreement and the group fell silent for a minute. Suddenly, she grinned mischievously. "Tell you what, you leave that to me--I'll get Harry away from Ginny. You two just make sure to ask her the right questions." Kodachi blinked as her last words echoed into the silence that had just fallen over the classroom.
"AHEM, speaking of questions Miss Hecate. I believe you were assigned numbers seven through thirteen for speaking in class last time." Binns pointed to a piece of chalk and gestured to Kodachi. "Why don't you come to the front of the class and tell us your answers while I find a few more to occupy you after class."
Ron hid a grin as he watched Kodachi trudge despondently down the aisle to the chalkboard and quickly pulled out his notebook for class, preparing for a long hour.
