Many of the spectators wondered what had been going through Kasumi's mind when she decided that the top of the barrier needed sweeping. Some shook their heads over such foolishness. Others quietly wondered if dear, sweet Kasumi might not be playing with a full deck.
Kasumi herself couldn't have put her reasons into words. Mostly because those reasons stemmed more from unconscious desire than conscious thought.
Maybe it was loneliness, watching the romantic chaos running rampant around her with no real prospects of her own. Maybe it was a suppressed attraction to Ranma, and an even more deeply suppressed regret over not claiming him when she had the chance. Maybe it was a bit of jealousy that it was her younger sister who might be getting a baby to love and raise, and not herself.
Whatever the reason, when Shampoo had dropped through the barrier, Kasumi was the only one to realize, albeit subconsciously, that what happened once might happen again. So when Miss Hinako had made her ill-advised attack on it, Kasumi had been the only one standing on the barrier.
