*It's a good thing that Mother and Father didn't try to surprise us with their visit, otherwise I may have let Genma take him on that trip he was planning.*
Genma sat sat in the backyard, grumbling. He didn't see why he had to let Ranma stay home, just because those two meddling fools... that is, his generous In-Laws, decided to come for a visit, and said that Genma couldn't take Ranma on his year long training trip. What was worse (in Genma's eyes at least) they had then bought there grandson several toys and such, and forbidden Genma from even touching them. A declaration backed up by Nodoka's katana.
As Genma pouted, Ranma was intranced by the the way the white gi clad fighter battled his opponent, a blond man wearing a jacket and baseball cap. It had taken a few tries before he had figured out the ways to make the man in the gi do what he wanted, but the same mindset that in other worlds led him to being one of the greatest martial artists of his generation, quickly allowed him to begin to master the controls of his character, and even allowed him to figure out, and memorize, the commands needed for him to begin the various special moves.
Ranma continued playing his copy of "Fatal Fury vs Street Fighter II." There were other games that sat beside the console, but this one had quickly proven to be his favorite. Later, when it was time for bed, he would read the manga his grandparents had bought for him. He had already looked at them while his grandfather had set up the game system (Genma had been arguing with Nodoka in their room at the time). They were exciting, and Ranma had quickly become drawn to the martial arts mangas (of course) but also found himself enjoying the fantasy manga; Slayers, Bastard, and Record of Lodoss War as well.
Nodoka stayed firm in her decision to keep Ranma at home 'for the sake of her parents.' while Ranma grew more and more enthralled by his games, and manga.
He still studied the art under his father Genma, and was even more enthusiastic as he hoped to one day be able to be as great as the characters he read about and played with. However, Genma was unable to get away with the stupid and insane training methods that he would have on that ten year voyage.
Most of them, anyway...
Just what effect does this have on Ranma, his life, and the Tendo engagement?
