Gatekeepers 1/2: The choice of Time [Episode 55270]

by Jamil Nate

Setsuna had thought long and hard about this, using all the knowledge she had from the Sailor Senshi from the news and her bodyguards' gossip in the corridor.

If she went with the advice of her sailor look-alike, she would most likely end up as a brainwashed lesbian playtoy. Uranus and Neptune had been pretty open about their sexual orientation every time they appeared. The other five were probably like them if certain outbursts (more like sexist rants about the uselessness of males, Tuxedo Kamen excluded) from Sailor Mars had been correctly interpreted. She liked guys, thank you very much...

Another disturbing possibility, courtesy of Fuu, was that it wasn't her 'future self' who had tried to make her join the senshi but an elaborate illusion from one of the Invaders' commanders, known as the Count Devil. That monster apparently delighted in mind games and pushing the Gatekeepers and the Sailor Senshi to destroy each other sounded like something he would do.

In all cases, she was sure that the Sailor Senshi were bad news. The Gatekeepers had saved her from death and they apparently were her only protection against whoever wanted her to join those misandrist vigilantes. Right now, they looked like her only hope. With all the governmental connections the Gatekeepers seemed to have, it was logical to conclude they were a rightful law-enforcement agency. Another good point for them the Senshi lacked.

If her transformation into Sailor Pluto was unavoidable, fine... Sailor Saturn proved that she could still join the Gatekeepers and fight on the right side! And the first thing she would do was to find a way to change that silly seifuku getup. She wasn't about to flash everyone with an uniform designed to give eye candy for the lesbians who wore them.

She had taken her decision "Hikaru-san? Could you call Saotome-san, please? I have decided to accept his offer"

Back at the Time Gates, Sailor Pluto was looking in horror at this new development "No..." All was lost. A direct conflict between the Senshi and the Gatekeepers now looked inevitable, with her younger self on the wrong side. And for the life of her, she could not predict the outcome. Add to this that the Invaders were still active and the Deathbusters were still after the talismans.

Her eyes were flooded with tears as the Time Gates were shutting down and the pocket dimension they were in started to crumble around her "Forgive me, my queen, Small Lady... I have failed you..."

The sweet voice of Chibi-Usa came from behind her "Don't worry about that, Puu. After all, it's not so bad..." Pluto turned to look at the child who embodied what she was working for. She gasped as her small frame morphed to become the robed silhouette of Count Devil, one of the Invaders' four commanders (Beryl had become the fourth since their banishment at the fall of the Silver Millenium) "Since Crystal Tokyo and Chibi-Usa have never existed!"

"You!?! How... How can it be!?" shouted an incredulous Pluto "You lie!"

"Humans... So short-sighted and blinded by their emotions... It should be obvious to even one with a puny intellect like yours . We wanted you out of the way" Devil chuckled "With you gone, there will be no one to alter History in the Senshi's favor. No timely Time Stop, if you'll forgive the bad pun, and no visions of things to come either..."

Pluto was still in denial "No, no, no, no... This cannot be. You couldn't have tricked me like that! That's impossible!" She aimed her Time Key at the smirking demon in front of her but no energy blast was fired "NOOOO!!!" Her power as well as her being were already fading into nothingness. She fell to her knees, her staff loudly bouncing on the floor as it began to disintegrate.

"Oh, I did trick you, my dear Pluto. That was the flaw who caused the loss of the Silver Millenium, you know... Blind faith in the Ginzuishou's purification. When we infiltrated your kingdom, no one saw it coming, too trusting in the fact that no one in the Moon Kingdom could possibly be evil" Count Devil walked to the collapsed Pluto, showing a toothy and smug smile "Your blunder with your younger self will push her to develop her Gate to the detriment of her sailor powers. And as Shadow proved long ago, a Gatekeeper can be corrupted...HahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

"You... won't... get... away with... this! The Sailor... Senshi will... defeat you!" Those were Sailor Pluto's last words. She finally disappeared without a trace and the Time Gates self-destructed, swept away by the forces of Paradox.

Back in his lair, Count Devil smiled "I'm afraid not, Pluto. Have you already forgotten how we came to be? As long as the Ginzuishou exists and there is Evil in men's hearts, the Invaders are eternal! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"
