Setsuna hurried to catch up. "'Takara'?"
"Takara - Katsushiko Takara. He's a teacher by trade, does basic martial arts. Nothing near my own level of course, but he does okay. He missed a connecting flight on his way back from AEGIS Middle East." Ranma shook his head. "He's supposed to give me an assessment of the green recruits. Since you're injured, you can't participate, but we've got a bunch of fresh faces brought in and I gotta give 'em the first lessons today."
Reaching a massive door, Ranma put his hand up and let the scanner read his patterns.
Identification complete.
Special Operative Ranma Saotome.
Welcome.
Entering the room, the ponytailed martial artist looked over the new recruits. "Heya. I'm Ranma Saotome and I'll be your instructor in the martial arts when Takara-san feels you're ready. Takara will be your regular instructor until that point, though I expect most of you will opt to not pursue that level of martial arts."
"Full of yourself, aren't you?"
Ranma raised an eyebrow at the girl who had spoken. "Miss? Not everyone has what it takes for the higher levels of the Art. Not everyone wants to get their hands dirty. There are uses for Gatekeepers, low level psychics, even Senshi who decide not to go the route of their fellows and join up. In the battles we at AEGIS face, you need to know your limits and go with what you're actually good at. We give everyone basic HTH. Takara can handle you up to basic black belt if you go that far. You have an innate desire for pain and abuse and want to go further in the Art - you talk to me."
"Hah! Sounds like a lot of talk to me!" The same girl turned to the girl next to her. "Why do guys always assume girls are weak?"
"We don't. Very well, if you'll show me your skills," Ranma gestured towards the mat in the front of the room.
"Akane, are you sure about this?" The second girl said to the challenging one.
"Trust me, I can deal with this," said Akane. "I am the heir of our family's school."
Setsuna looked at the girl and then at Ranma. "This is going to be brutal."
Ranma let out a deep breath. If he didn't go full out now, this girl would likely die in her first Invader encounter. Not to mention he'd lose the respect of this class before Takara could make that missed flight and take over. Well, he knew that there were days like this.
