Akane eeped and wanted to close her eyes. First one of the trikes had moved its head to block, then had flipped the carnivore up, then it had reared up and crushed the carnivore in a very messy manuever.
She was glad she did not close her eyes as a group of the others stormed forward from the other side and she met the eye of one of the clawed critters.
It wasn't the herd they were after. She wasn't sure how she knew, she just knew on meeting that gaze. It was her they were after. The only thing keeping Akane Tendo from ending up as gobbets of meat ripped apart and eaten by these things (she could see they were fairly fast now - one or two she still felt she could take - twelve was another thing entirely) was the ring of triceratops surrounding her and their young.
Akane decided right then and there that she'd always liked three horned multi-tonned herbivorous dinosaurs. Okay, they smelled a bit and weren't good conversationalists. All things considered, minor points.
The triceratops grunted and gronked and moved their heads enough to skewer two more of the carnivores.
