Electricity arced from pole to pole. Dials whirled. Beepers beeped. Lights flashed.
None of which was necessary for the machinery to work, but it looked good.
chaka-chaka-chaka-chaka-chaka-chaka-ding!
Francine Stein went to the decanter of Tank #9 as the new monster was released. "Magnificent! This is... not at all what I'd planned. What the heck happened?"
"Glorp!" said the monster.
"Still, you may be useful," said the mad scientist. "Motorcat, Copycat!"
"You rang, oh mighty boss," said Motorcat as she looked up from where she was working.
"we here, no need be cross," purred Copycat. (bom-pa-dum-dum-dum).
"I want to test this monster's capabilities," said Francine. "Monster. Here are your first targets. Subdue them."
"Eeeep, I say," said Motorcat.
"This not my day," said Copycat, splitting into two.
Francine watched as the monster went to work on the two felines.
Motorcat had telemechanics abilities. She could make gadgets and supertune their performance. Copycat could temporarily duplicate herself into as many as four copies. They were stronger and faster than they had been as Yuka and Sayuri, as well as being able to take a substantial hit and pick themselves back up.
Dubbing the new monster 'Morphea', Francine Stein observed her capabilities. Looking like some plastic mannequin without features, the new monster had the ability to alter her shape. She formed one hand into a massive hammer that slammed one of Copycat's doubles nearly flat, then flowed like a wave over Motorcat before the other could use her taser rod.
Motorcat fell, limp and apparently unconscious as another of Copycat's doubles was briefly engulfed. This time though, the living coccoon pulsed a few times before releasing the copy.
Doctor Stein nodded. Shapeshifting and stretching were both useful, and what had happened to one of Copycat's doubles indicated that Morphea could also:
