Of course this was not the case in reality but Nerima, and for that matter all society really, was a hotbed for rumor and gossip. All it took was one accusation and naturally it was a fact. No one ever bothered to ask witnesses questions such as "Who caused this damage?" or "Why did the elephant try to swim in that birdbath?"
No, those type of questions would have made too much sense and taken actual work. Besides which.. when the person accused of a crime pleads innocent over and over again then it obviously is a case of 'protesting too much'.
Which is why when gigantic cloned dinosaurs managed to escape from their island prison it did not cause the end of cloning. Cloning was not at fault, just the unscrupulous company who used it. And of course the company was not at fault because they had securely penned the animals in their own private property.
No, when it all came down to the source it was the public opinion that only one individual could have been at fault.
Naturally Akane Tendou stated that it was not her fault the chase crowd became so big. It wasn't her fault that following Ryouga she had somehow managed to infiltrate a top-secret island. It wasn't her fault that the critters there were so friendly with her thanks to their training. It wasn't her fault that in order to get back off the island she had simply followed Ryouga again.
After all if he could get into the place surely he could get them both back out the same way, right?
It wasn't her fault that the herd of plant-eaters had followed their food provider off the island without ever once having come across the barriers that should have been there such as electric fences and miles of open ocean. It wasn't her fault that a lot of predators had followed the herd in hopes of seeing a weak link in the pack. It wasn't her fault that the stupid scientists hadn't realized the creatures could give birth without ensemination. It wasn't her fault that now people and animals were being devoured by the new higher level food chain predators who were quickly multiplying.
It's amazing how many things weren't Akane Tendou's fault. It was too bad for 'the lady that doth protest too much' that the scared and the dying didn't exactly believe her on that assertion.
