Of course, that might have been because the Musk had been reduced to the prince and his underlings, but Ranma's...powerful (Tarou wouldn't speak ill of the dead by saying overbearing) personality helped her case greatly.
Tarou wasn't sure of the exact details of how Ranma and Herb came together. He'd heard various things ranging from drugs and magic to it being some vast, screwball plot of Ranma's to steal Herb's techniques and make a fool out of everybody else.
Tarou doubted the last from what he had seen of the couple after the marriage. There had been a peace and relaxation in Ranma's eyes as she stood with her prince that had always before been lacking and which Tarou had envied.
Tarou had stumbled upon the couple by accident in what remained of the old Musk stronghold in China. Tarou had almost not recognized Ranma, dressed as she was in a regal dress as her husband told her of the history of the Musk...with her frequent and blunt commentaries. Which is how Tarou had finally recognized her.
They had been on vacation then, and a fight had almost broken out when Tarou intruded, but things had fortunately calmed down. Then they had split their seperate ways, Tarou tracking down another item to use against Happosai, and the Musk royals leaving the Musk lands to return to Japan.
The next time Tarou had seen Ranma was two years later when a weary, desperate and battered red-head in her old fighting clothes came to his hiding place along with two young children and pleading with him to take care of them if "something happened."
A week later, something happened. Tarou wasn't certain of the details, but he had caught the news of the explosion and seen the bodies of the two parents. He'd also caught sight of the fiancees watching from the crowds in the picture.
He didn't know how those weak girls had taken both Herb and Ranma, but he wasn't about to fail in his promise to that desperate mother.
He had a new task at hand, one more important than changing his name.
