"Yeah, right, like I'd want another fiancee anyway. Girls are all just trouble," began Ranma.
"Ahem," said Akane, Nabiki, Shampoo, Ukyo, and Kodachi with pointed glares.
"What?" Ranma asked, hoping ignorance would be an excuse in this instance.
"So," said the drow thoughtfully. "Maybe someone who could get you involved in REAL fights."
"I get into fights all the time," complained Ranma.
"Not some piddly little martial arts fight involving bread or leaving the toilet seat up or some nonsense like that," said the goddess with a hint of exasperation. "I mean real lives-in-the-balance things. The sort of thing you'd brush up against if this was after your fight with Saffron."
"Who?" Ranma asked.
"Face it, the closest thing you've come to a genuine good-versus-evil, saving-innocent-lives sort of battle was when Happosai split you into good and evil versions with that cursed incense." Eilistraee considered something and became more enthusiastic. "Yes! Just the thing to get you kicked in the spiritual rear! A fiancee who can provide you a link to the most intense battles - where you have to delve into the true spirit of the martial arts and learn special manuevers beyond anything you've yet managed."
"I tell you I don't... special manuevers?"
Eilistraee was waxing eloquent, not noticing that most of the martial artists (and a little black pig) were actually paying attention now. "Yes. The incredible wealth of hidden secrets and martial arts lost to time, of becoming one with The Art, of tossing aside your petty duels over whether or not to eat your fiancee's cooking and actually engaging in battles of destiny!"
"Martial arts secrets?" Ranma repeated.
"I'll have to see if she's available in this timeline," said Eilistraee. "She'd be darn near perfect for you. Your various traits would balance out nicely."
"Huh? What?" Ranma watched as the goddess vanished. "Well it ain't like I need no fiancees anyway!"
"Too bad Ranma," said Nabiki, looking to twist a knife. "As a goddess, she most likely could have removed your curse. IF you had asked nicely."
P-chan, sensing an opportune moment, decided to bite Ranma's ankle for not getting them all a cure.
Eilistraee considered the possibilities. This was Japan. There were almost always supernatural menaces waiting to be unleashed on an unsuspecting public. Perhaps the proper avatar would be... that one."
