10 Rings: Genma's visitation [Episode 5797]

by Kestral

Two sleeping bags. One was Genma's.

One was Ranma's. Somehow it had become a lot roomier and Ranma and Saturn and Neptune and Uranus were all inside - all warm and comfortable.

Genma was grumbling about the cold, about the bites and scratchmarks, and how his gi currently had this big rip in the seat.

Meanwhile Saturn was snuggling close to Ranma and the picture was so incredibly cute and warm and fuzzy that small birds started chirping and Genma expected deer to start frolicking on the lawn.

He had a large mallet just in case. Deer meat was really tasty.

Saturn - Genie of Space & Destruction.

Neptune - Guardian of Water & Music

Uranus - the Protector of the Earth

Except that currently Saturn was snuggled up against her cute boyfriend Master Ranma and looking more like the Genie of Cute & Cuddling.

Uranus, with her sort of bishonen look, might have been considered to be a little boy if you didn't know better.

Neptune looked more like the girl and was cuddled between Uranus and Ranma on the other side from Saturn.

Genma wondered why things hadn't gone his way.

"A wise person once said 'if you want to make the kami laugh, tell him your plans'."

Genma nodded. This sure seemed to go that way. He...

Genma did a quick matchup. Not Ranma. Not any of the other kids. His eyes slowly lifted to regard-

A ghost. The woman with the silver hair and sad eyes regarded him solemnly. That she was transparent and surrounded by a powerful ki was something to bring some consideration to him. However there was no fear within him, this woman seemed to radiate calm and peace.

"You're not another genie are you?" Genma hazarded.

"I am Serenity," said the ghost. "Genma Saotome. Your son is on an epic quest. If he succeeds, great power and great wealth lie ahead for him. If he fails, you and he shall be among the millions of dead. Will you hinder or help your son on this quest?"

"Urk!" Genma believed the woman. Something was transcendently sincere about her. Hmmm. Wealth or death. Which did he want? Tough choice.

"Beware the Dark Genie, Genma Saotome, lies are yet another weapon in their arsenal. The only bargain you might be able to keep with them is whether you prefer a swift death or a slow one. They are powerful and ruthless. Yet there is hope." The woman smiled at Genma and it was if the sun had brightened. "Genma Saotome. Look at your son and see if he could not be a man among men after all."

Genma watched the woman fade out and glanced back at the sleeping bag with Ranma. Except for that one girl looking awfully boyish, Nodoka would likely see this scene and...

The portly Saotome fished a poloroid out of his backpack and snapped a few photos. If he sent this to Nodoka, she'd be assured that her son would be a man among men. Or at least would be more inclined to listen to an explanation if something happened between then and now.

Genma thought about this some more. An Epic Quest? Hardly what he had gone through.

Okay - Ranma had three genie out of a set of whatever the number had been.

"...ten..." the breeze whispered.

That was right - ten rings to rule them all, ten rings to bind them, ten rings to bring them all and-

"...wrong series..." the breeze whispered.

Genma pondered. Epic quests could certainly be considered manly. Saving his father the world from destruction was manly. And weren't a lot of those heroes in both Japanese and Chinese legends skilled martial artists?

That determined, Genma decided that:
