Ranma Saotome's current messed up life was a direct result of the karma he had built up in his past life chomping on his ass this time around. One cannot forge a massive empire without generating massive amounts of both good and bad karma. That's right, even today people feared and respected the legacy of Ranma's past life. He had been a lord of nations, a slaughterer of enemies, and a lover of many women. Ranma carried the soul of a man who forged an empire.
Each of the major problems in Ranma's life could easily be shown to be connected to what his past incarnation did. Being a martial artist was simply a way that the past incarnation could express his warrior spirit in these peaceful times. The various rivals were from the curses heaped upon Ranma by his past life's defeated enemies. All of the fiancees Ranma had was just a pale shadow of the harem that shared his past life's bed.
Thanks to Mihoshi's blunder, Ranma's current self with all of his abilities was shot strait into the past so that 'Ranma' merged with his past self at the height of his power. Ranma quickly absorbed his past self and realized that he was...
