Since Ranma had always considered his father a lying, cheating, stealing, poor excuse for a man, and thus he on some level belived that it was a mistake to ever have Genma for a parent to begin with.

As such the wish had sent him so far back that his life wasn't even his anymore, but one that used to belong to him.

So Ranma became...

Kenshin Himura. Hey, they're both short redheaded martial artists (well sometimes anyway) with more than one woman intrested in them. What could be closer?
Inuyasha! Now he's a dog demon...that's afraid of cats?
Some other guy from ye olden days
Some other GIRL from ye olden days
Actually Mihishi screwed the wish up completely, Ranma got someone else's body in the future instead.
