It started rather simple. She told him about her past, and about how she became a vampire. She mentioned how her entire squad had been killed, and only her, the “kitten” had survived... in a sense. They been turned into ghouls, and her sire, Alucard had killed them. He’d killed her too, but only after she’d accepted his offer of vampiric unlife.
She’d gone on to talk about her first kill and how hard it had been, asking herself more then him that if she was human, were they? She didn’t want to hurt people, and he realization was beginning to rip her apart.
Next she’d mentioned the Iscariot priest, a term which was abused talking about the animal whom she descried, Alexander Anderson. He’d killed her commander and stabbed her through the neck calling her a polluted inhuman monster.
Vash shook his head and looked at the slumbering girl. He’d seen plenty of true monsters, and that girl was not among them.
He shrugged and looked at Vicky’s little fridge. He’d have to ask her if he could put a case of beer in next to her blood...
Speaking of blood, she’d told him about Hellsing traitor and Lady Hellsing cruely letting Alucard EAT a human being, something which had turned his stomach to hear and Victoria’s when she communicated her raging hunger when she saw that sight. It tore at her, at the time she both wanted to be in Alucard’s place, but was disgusted to her core. That night she said she drank her medical blood for the first time.
“Poor girl,” he muttered. “She’s felt too much pain…”
Very poor girl. She had begun to break down when she mentioned the first attack on the Hellsing organization. Over one hundred of her comrades had died and been resurrected as ghouls, just like that first faithful night, and she’d been forced to kill them.
Her response to her own emotional sadness had been very British. She stood defiantly against her own guilt and sorrow with defiance and a stiff upper lip, trying not to she any weakness.
He told her to let it go. There was always a time for sadness and tears. It was part of the human experience. When humans are sad, the cry and express their emotions.
Her offered her a sympathetic ear and a shoulder to cry on, and she took it. She latched onto him so tight he could hear his ribs creak and cried and sobbed on about subjects she has no concept of., but had mentioned the name “Incognito” several times.
It was obvious to him even then that she’d needed the cry and had needed it for a long time, so she just let her go, and go, and go. Eventually, she cried herself to sleep which brought him full circle.
Vash smiled and knelt next to the girl’s bunk and tucked her in.
“Good night, Vicky,” he muttered.
Making sure she looked comfortable, he slipped out the door to leave, but did not exit before looking back once again and saying, “Sweet dreams.”
