Then she checked Nerima.

Finally she checked with herself. Her future self.

Sailor Pluto heard the phone ring and groaned. It was that phone. Just when she was settling into a nice piping hot bubble bath. "I have no sense of timing."

Limping over to the phone, Pluto picked it up on the fifth ring. "Hello Pluto. Pluto here."

"Pluto this is Pluto. I just got a message from Queen Serenity... (click click)"

"This is just great, hang on," said Future Pluto to Past Pluto, "it sounds like I'm on the other line."

"Pluto this is Pluto," said the voice.

"Hold on Pluto, I'll bring Pluto on the other line," said Pluto.

"I'm on the other line too?!" Pluto asked.

"This must be a Monday. I've never gotten the hang of Mondays," confessed Pluto. "Are you there? Pluto? Pluto?"

"Yes." "Yes."

"Pluto, you were calling about the engagement to Hotaru? And you, Pluto, you were calling because lonely heart Makoto met dejected Ranma and the two started hitting it off and you're having trouble saying no to anyone when we all know darn well that this is their only chance to not end up as a forgotten extra playing Queen Serenity's third-string concubine in her relationship with Mamoru Chiba?"

"Yes." "Rather more brutally than I would have put it."

Pluto rolled her eyes. Yes. Had to be a monday. "Okay, the reason that Ranma has to end up with Hotaru is:"

• to introduce a chaos factor into the strict order of Crystal Tokyo. Rather like a vaccine. It doesn't matter which Senshi as long as it is a Senshi."
• as you know, Hotaru would normally die bringing the Great Freeze to Earth to protect against the Last Menace. Well, Mercury did a study and determined there's a better than 75% chance to avoid that if Ranma is her boyfriend."
• a race called the Swarm are able to absorb energies associated with Order. They wipe out Crystal Tokyo unless something is done to make the future less appetizing."
• (click click) "Hang on, someone else is calling in."
