"So you two are going to have another kid, are ya?" Sanosuke asked jovially as he smirked at the expectant couple.
"That we are," Kenshin replied with a smile.
"In about six to seven months," Karou said.
"That's great then!" declared Sanosuke as he raised his sake cup to them, "Kampai!"
"Kampai!" chorused everyone else.
"And you're finally marrying Megumi," commented Yahiko.
Sano went goggle-eyed as he nearly choked on his drink. "What do you mean 'finally'?!"
"I was beginning to think that you would never get the guts up to ask her."
"What?! You're accusing me of having no guts?! What about you, making Tsubame wait like that?!"
"We were underaged! I had to wait until we were ready! What's your excuse?!" barked Yahiko as his wife blushed.
"Well... I... that is... It's none of your business! That's it!"
"Can't come up with one, can you?!"
"Why you little..."
"Please, stop it. It's so nice to be like this, and we haven't had a quiet evening like this since Ranma and Misao... Oops," said Tsubame, who realized what she was saying and covered her mouth, "Sorry."
"It's okay," soothed Kaoru, "They were a part of our lives and we can not forget them, ever."
"That's true," agreed her husband, "I have lost many friends over time and each of them lives on in my memory. As long as we remember them, what they brought to our lives can not be taken away, that it can't."
"It's just that..," Tsubame whispered, "I can't believe they're gone. I keep on expecting Ranma to come into the Akabeko to order an extra large bowl of miso..."
Megumi put a hand on her shoulder. "That's okay. I keep on expecting one of them to come in with some kind of injury or another. And when they don't, it's a shock to remember that they're gone."
"That never changes," commented Sanosuke, "You always hold that pain of loss, but the way that I figure it, knowing how much it hurts to lose someone tells you how special they were to you."
"That's very poetic," observed Kenshin, "that it is."
"You think so?"
"Yeah," drawled Yahiko, "So where's the real Sanosuke?"
"I am the real Sanosuke!"
"Oh really..?"
"Why you little..!"
"I just have one question though," asked Tsubame.
"What is that?" queried Kenshin.
"What is going to happen to the children?"
"Unfortunately, we couldn't find them no matter where we looked. Which likely means that Ranma and Misao put them someplace safe, that they did. And with the way that the trails have disappeared, we have little chance at the moment to find them or the others we seek. It doesn't mean that we will stop searching, but it is going to become harder as time goes by, that it will."
"So what do we do?"
"Wait, and hope for the best. If the guardian that they chose was good enough to keep them during this, the most dangerous time, then it maybe likely that he or she will be able to keep them safe until it's time for them to live their own lives. Though if they do show up, we will welcome them with open arms."
"That's right," agreed Karou, "And they'll have plenty of cousins to play with when they do!"
"So you'll have to do your duty," Yahiko mock-wispered to Sano.
"Wha... what?! What are you talking about?!" yelled the former 'Zanza'.
"Well, Megumi isn't that old, but she's not going to be able to wait forever!"
Gaping a few times while his fiancee raised a brow, Sanosuke glared at the younger man. "You don't know what you're talking about!"
"Sure I do. Though I hope that they look more like her than a blockhead like you."
"And what about you!"
"What about me?"
"When are there going to be little Myojins running about, huh?"
"Well... I... That is..," stammered Yahiko as he rubbed the back of his head and Tsubame turned red as she stared at her lap.
They all shared a laugh at the sight, while:
