Thieves and Ninjas: Disturbing News [Episode 60493]

by Thrythlind

Saitoh looked up at the gate of the Tendo compound, frowning. He hated having to ask the same questions twice. He wondered if it was too much to ask for people to be honest when facing inquiry. He tapped the ashes off of his cigarette and shook his head as he walked through the gates to the door, leaving a pair of policeman behind him.

He knocked politely on the door and waited for Kasumi Tendo to answer. He generally liked the eldest Tendo sister, as much as he liked any member of the human race at least. The woman was a true innocent mired in with mess her family had made for her.

"Oh, Saitoh-sama," she said, nervously.

"Tendo-san," Saitoh said with faint smile. "I need to speak to your father."

"Yes, of course," Kasumi said, looking hesitantly over his shoulder at the guards at the gates. "He's inside, I'll...

"But first I need to speak to you," Saitoh said interrupting her.

"Me?" Kasumi said. "I don't see where I can help you."

"Have you heard from your sister recently?" Saitoh asked.

"No, I still haven't heard from Akane," Kasumi said.

"I was thinking of your other sister," Saitoh said.

"Nabiki?" Kasumi said, surprised.

"So, no word then," Saitoh said. "Do you know why she left town?"

"She had an argument with Father..." Kasumi started.

"Kasumi!" Soun's voice called out from behind her. "That's enough."

"That's fine," Saitoh said. "It's obvious she's innocent of this. Tendo, I believe you and I will have to talk, if you'll come with me."

"If you need to talk, we can do it right here," Soun said.

"No, Tendo," Saitoh said with a vicious smile on his face. "We need to talk. The last time I granted you the luxury of speaking here, we did not get very far. And now, another of your daughters has vanished into the wilds."

"Kasumi is perfectly fine," Soun said, pointing her out.

"Yes, but I'm speaking of Nabiki," Saitoh said.

"She's no daughter of mine," Soun protested.

"Yes, I thought you might say something like that," Saitoh said. "Nabiki was asking some questions before she disappeared. She apparently discovered something, something important enough that it would drive a pampered low-ranked noblewoman into the wilds. I'd like to know what it was."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Soun declared. "But if you want to talk to me, you can do it here."

"Are you resisting arrest, Tendo?" Saitoh asked with a smile, tapping out his cigarette again.

"Saitoh-sama," Kasumi said. "I'm sure there must be a mistake."

"Jinza," Saitoh called out, not taking his eyes from Soun.

"Yes, sir," one of the police officers at the gate said.

"Escort Tendo-san to that doctor's clinic down the road, please," Saitoh said. "Until it is safe for her to return."

"Yes, sir," the police officer said, moving to Kasumi's side as the order was given. "Tendo-san."

"I really shouldn't..." Kasumi said hesitantly as she was guided away.

"My daughter is safe here," Soun insisted.

"One daughter a criminal," Saitoh said. "The other is missing. You are not doing well with your daughters, Tendo. Don't be more stupid than you have already been. Come with us quietly."

Kasumi paused at the gate and looked back at her father in concern.

"Please just go with them, father," she whispered under her breath.

"Tendo-san, please," the police officer said, urging her away from the scene before...
