They had done so... eventually, and she had such great hopes for the future then, even if they didn't come straight home. It had seemed that there would be such a wonderful time coming where all the hardships were turned to joys. Then had come the troubles when the engagements had been broken and she had found herself with an unexpected daughter-in-law. It had been something that she had needed some getting used to, but she managed to warm up to the child once she got to know her and that was helped when Misao had given her the grandchildren she had been so waiting for.
They had bonded over that birth, so that Ranma had felt rather put upon. She had learned to get over the broken engagements, though as far as she had known, they had been mutually dissolved. It had been a wonderful time, one that she had so enjoyed at the time. From being lonely to having a large family that she could enjoy, especially with so many young women who were motherless. And she had a son who was willing to put his life on the line to protect his nation and bring great honor to his family.
Unfortunately, that had not lasted and those... honorless... girls had taken what she had nearly lost in her attempts to make Ranma marry according to the arrangements. Not only that, but they had taken her son and daughter-in-law in the manner of craven cowards, tricking them and running off in the night. That had been a very dark time for her indeed, and only a sheer effort of will had allowed her to bear it at all.
But at the moment, she wasn't crying, brooding or doing anything that she had been doing after the 'attack'.
Instead, as she was moving and preparing to go out, she was humming, and humming a traditional lullaby at that. Which was due to the fact that Kaoru was pregnant again. She had come to know the girl during the time when she and her son had reconciled, and felt like a substitute mother for Megumi, Tsubame and her, or a favored aunt at least. It was always wonderful to babysit Kenji and with another child on the way, she could get one to not only love as itself, but as she would her own missing grandchildren.
And what with her getting so close to her time, she was going to need all the help that she could give. Perhaps it would even give her the opportunity to suggest to Megumi and Tsubame that they should think about what they should do for their children when they came.
Then a knock at the door interrupted her thoughts and she stopped, blinking. She had not expected any visitors at the moment, and it wasn't as if any salesmen would tend to call upon her. Maybe one of her friends of adopted family had come to see her.
"Coming!" Nodoka called out as she went over to the door and opened it... only to stare at who was standing there.
"Hello... Auntie..," mumured a hesitant Kasumi Tendo, while:
