“Man, I wonder what got into Akane?” Ranma wondered as he sat up in a field of endless whitespace. “That's so not like her.  She doesn’t usually blow up unless … something’s upset … her … Where the hell am I now?” Wherever he looked, there was simply nothing but endless white.

“Do not be alarmed,” a familiar girl’s voice told him. “You are merely in a state of altered consciousness.”

“I’m dreaming?” translated Ranma as he looked at the girl who was suddenly standing, or floating, not far before him. “Okay, I hit my head and I’m halucinating. And who…what are you supposta be? The spirit of the drowned girl or something?”

“No. This system is not an independent entity. This familiar form is merely a projection into your consciousness to facilitate communication. You have been given power beyond your comprehension. Without something to buffer your mind, unlimited access to that power would destroy you. To enable you to control and understand that power an interface was established within your mind. I am the manifestation of that system.”

“Right,” Ranma nodded, getting the gist of her meaning. “So you’re some kind of spirit guide? Or a genie? But who are you?”

“If it helps you to think of it in those terms, then yes,” she agreed. “This system will respond to ‘Genie’ if you feel that is necessary.”

“O…kay, then Jeanie, so what can I do with this power?”

“Almost anything you can imagine,” she responded. “Though at first what is possible will be somewhat limited, the scope and range of your power will increase with time and experience. Eventually you will be able to reshape matter and energy to your wishes and bend physical laws to your whim.”

Ranma nodded in understanding. “It’s not an effortless powerup then, I’ve got to practice.”

“Essentially.”

“So how do I use this power?”

“You merely need to inform this system of your desire and, if it is possible, it shall make it happen. As it does so, your subconscious will absorb the details. Eventually you shall be able to guide the power directly.”

“And how do I do that?”

“This system is thought controlled,” she told him.

“So I just think to you?” he asked. “(Like this, Jeannie?)”

(Affirmative,) her voice echoed in his mind. (Subvocalise just like that and this system will respond thuswise.)

“Okay, then. First thing first: can you cure my curse?”

“This system has anticipated that request and can stabilise your morphic field, or alter it as you desire.”

“Is that a yes or no?”

“It is a yes and no. This system can prevent you from changing forms when exposed to hot or cold water, or reestablish that trigger should it be desired, or even implement another trigger. This system can also change your gender at your command, should you wish to disguise yourself, or enable you to assume a completely different form.”

“The curse is under my control? Cool!”

“As you wish. Now that you have been informed of all that is necessary to operate this system, you should begin practicing when you awaken.”

“Then I’d better wake up,” Ranma said, and he did.
