He had, depsite all the work that he and his men had put into it, gotten no further in his investigation of the quartet of murderesses that had so blatantly killed Ranma and Misao. It was as if the four of them had simply faded into nothingness, with none of them leaving behind a workable trail.
By no means did he think that they had actually been genius enough to plan some sort of complicated plan to evade capture, but sometimes the most simple of plans was the best. The most likely of scenarios was that they had broken up, and with not being in each other's immediate vicinity, they were less likely to bring attention to each other. It would also allow them the chance to go in seperate directions, far from each other.
In doing so, they had left him and his men with little to go on. To find each of them, they would have to come every part of the nation, and that did not guarantee success. For all they knew, the girls could have run to China or one of her neighbors, or even the west, such as Europe or America. And they just didn't have the time, manpower or funds to manage that sort of thing.
So it was with a great reluctance that he closed the file with all of the information on the case and put it in his office cabinet. Shutting the drawer, while not being offical, signified that the case was put aside. That no major work would be done on it, even if small bits were put into the folder.
Looking out his window at the moonlit night, he shook his head. All that didn't mean that the killers would be forgotten. Sometime in someplace, they would make some sort of mistake. If it was only one, or all, he would be waiting. Even if he was not going to get the satisfying experience of dealing with them at the moment, they were still out there, unaware that once they got the 'Wolf Of Mibu' on their tail, he never gave up.
One day they would find themselves discovered and by that time it would be too late. Justice would already be in the process of being dealt.
Sitting in his chair, he turned it so that he could look out the window and imagine what would happen when they finally met. All their tricks wouldn't save them.
But until then, the case would sit while:
