The times were quiet, enjoyable. She, Tarou and the children were a sort of family, with Cologne a recent and useful addition. It was almost possible to forget the series of events that had led to the situation.
Almost possible, but certainly not easy. It lurked on the edge of their consciousness at all times. This would not last. Eventually, Ranma's and Misao's children would be ready to leave. In fact, that time was growing closer upon them every day. And then they would seek out their mother's clan and, perhaps, from there they would seek their parent's killers.
Bounties had been placed on the four girl's capture or elimination, but money would not be the motivation when Kitsune and Aoshi sought out the former fiancees.
No...they would be motivated by justice, Nabiki hoped, or perhaps vengeance, a far more wicked and dangerous emotion.
Nabiki would much rather see them go on about their lives without letting vengeance consume them, and so she continued to teach them parables and stories, sometimes needing to invent such stories, about the dangers of such pursuits, hoping that they'd listen.
The only thing she wished for was that Ranma's and Misao's friends and families could visit to see the children. That the children could be allowed friends of their own age. That Kasumi could see her now, trying to be a country wife.
She smiled faintly down at her swollen belly, watching her man and Cologne oversee the children. Times were quiet...and she wished it could last.
