Yet, she couldn't call just anyone. Her family would not deal with this information well, and she didn't want Nabiki asking questions. Those she worked with were out obviously. Kodachi had been getting progressively more annoyed with her worries, and she didn't like the look that she kept on getting out of Shampoo. Which left only one person to call.
"Come on..," she whispered harshly as she pressed the handset to her ear, "Be there..."
*"Kuonji residence,"* said a dull voice over the line.
"Ukyo, it's me!"
*"Akane?"*
"Yeah!"
*"What is it?"*
"Have you been reading the newspaper?"
There was a quiet snort from Ukyo's end. *"My husband took our children and moved out and I can't blame him. So I haven't exactly had the time for sitting with the paper."*
The young filmmaker winced. "Sorry, but one of my interns just brought me something and it could mean big trouble!"
*"What kind of trouble?"*
"BIG Stuff! I just saw a picture of Kiima in her cursed form at some festival!"
*"So? Maybe she's on vacation."*
"With two Musk children?!"
*"What?"*
"And that's not all! The night that Nabiki got promoted, we were out celebrating and Nodoka mentioned something about having grandkids!" Akane told her.
*"So you're telling me..,"* began Ukyo.
"They look way too close to be anything but!"
*"Oh my..."*
"What do we do? This could bring everything down on us..."
*"Keep calm... I have some ideas, but I have to work them through."*
"But..."
*"Don't worry. I'll find out what I can. You just wait until I call back, okay?"*
"I... guess..."
*"Okay. I'll talk to you later."*
"Bye," Akane replied, and then stared at the disconnected phone while:
